First, before we talk about pizza, we have an announcement. We had (notice HAD) our very first cochroach!!!! It is no longer with us. We did NOT feel sorry for its untimely departure. Now, we will be wondering if there are more. The Wigg's had their first cochroach when we arrived in Bangalore. They had only one, so hopefully, we will have only one. We can always hope. It probably won't be the last time we see one of those critters here. We found it in one of our lower cupboards. We did not check to see if it was a male or female. Nor did we take a picture of it! Enough of that.
We had all the missionaries over for pizza on Monday. Elder Thanniru and Elder Augustine were over around 5:00. Unfortunately, we did not get a picture of them. The others came at about 8:00. Elder Hodgson (left), Elder Solomon, Elder Challa, and Elder Smoot (side view only) look like they are eating well. Sister Tiefenbach also made a salad that contained broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, tomatoes, cucumber, and onions. It was a yummy salad. The missionaries liked the salad, too, but we think the pizza was a bigger hit with them. Elder Smoot had been serving in Erode, and we saw him only a few times before he arrived here. Elder Solomon is the new missionary from Canada. We proudly claim him as our own. We have been quite impressed with him. He is ready to share the gospel and knows what he is supposed to be doing. We think he will be a hard worker here in Coimbatore.
Elder Ram and Elder Racharla (the zone leaders) arrived last. (We have another side view of Elder Smoot, as well.) Elder Ram and Elder Racharla stayed a little later than the other missionaries, so they got ice cream, too. But, don't tell the other missionaries. The zone leaders get a little more spoiled because they live so close to us. The other missionaries have to leave earlier so they can get back to their apartment on time.
We had some experience with two hospitals this week - not for either one of us. Elder Thanniru had hurt his arm just above the wrist, so we took him to the hospital to get a brace to keep his wrist immobilized. Of course, the doctors wanted to x-ray it to make sure it was not broken. It was not. Today, at church, he was not wearing the brace, so apparently his wrist healed much faster after he received the brace. We took him to a private hospital. Private hospitals are . . . well, let's just say different, in many positive ways, than the government hospitals. You can see that the linens on the examining table are neat and clean. Tonight, we went to a government hospital to see a friend, Sister Patricia, who had a stroke yesterday. Sister Patricia lives with her daughter, Sister Ronna. Sister Patricia is not a member of our church, but she visits with us and listens to the lessons we teach as we visit with Sister Ronna. We have been quite touched by Sister Patricia's love for the Savior and her interest in our visits. She was always happy to see us. We have been blest to have met her. Her prognosis is not good. The doctors will decide whether or not to operate. If she survives the operation, the doctors seem to think that she would not live more than about 6 months. Elder Tiefenbach, Brother Navaneethan and Brother Prabu gave her a blessing. We will wait to hear how she does. Maybe, leaving this life will be best for her, but we will wait to see. The cleanliness in the government hospitals is not good. But, on the bright side, all the nurses in the governement hospital wore white dresses, nurses' hats, white hose, and white shoes. The sight took me back to the 60's and 70's in Canada.
Each Friday evening, we have family home evening with the Young Single Adults. Brother Akash (right) gave the lesson about having a balanced life. His lesson was taken from a talk by Elder M. Russell Ballard. He did a good job. We played UNO for the activity. This is the first time we actually played UNO with the UNO cards. We have played "Spoons" and "Pit" with them. Sister Tiefenbach was the only "girl" present.
The young man next to Sister Tiefenbach, Johnson, thinks Sister Tiefenbach looks like Cruella Deville. That is NOT a compliment according to Sister Tiefenbach. We are sure Johnson meant it in the nicest way. Okay, everyone can STOP laughing now!!!! Sister Tiefenbach does NOT see the resemblance.
A baptism after the Sunday meetings is always a great way to end the week, or begin the week if we go by the calendar week. Sister Margaret was baptized by her father, Brother Alexander. Brother Alexander was baptized two weeks ago. What a great blessing it was for him to perform her baptism. Brother Alexander has seen a great change in his life since the missionaries began teaching him and since he joined the church. The Lord has truly blessed him for his sincerity in changing his life. President Arul, our Branch President, lives close to Brother Alexander.
Boniface, a young man from Africa, was also baptized. He is a friend of Victor (standing beside him).
